New Patients

We welcome new patients.

Please phone reception on 03 9514 0888 to request an appointment as a new patient.  You may nominate your doctor of choice, or reception will allocate a doctor for you.

We have included the Patient Registration Form under the info, New Patients tab of the website.  Completing this form prior to attending the clinic will save you some time.  Please remember to bring your Medicare Card, Student Card or any concession cards with you, so we can record and verify these details when you first visit.

Appointments are required, and can be made through reception by phone or in person. We are now able to provide online appointment booking to existing patients only. See the Online booking tab on the home page. Time can be made available for urgent appointments (e.g. PEP) by letting reception know you require urgent medical attention.

If you have a medical emergency, phone 000 or go straight to hospital emergency.

The standard appointment time is 15 minutes, however you can ask for a longer appointment if you have multiple health issues.

Our receptionists will ask you to confirm your name, address, and date of birth each time you phone for an appointment. This is required to ensure your correct identification, and to protect your privacy. Please assist our reception staff by providing them with enough information about your requirements, to ensure that the appropriate time is allocated for your appointment, and your appointment is made with the correct doctor. This will assist us in keeping to time.

Not all of our doctors are able to prescribe S100 drugs – if you require scripts for methadone or similar, you should state this at the time of making the appointment.

An SMS reminder message will automatically be sent to your mobile phone on the day before your appointment. You may opt out of this service by advising reception.

We request that you provide a minimum of 2 hours notice of cancellation if you cannot make your appointment. This allows us to reallocate your appointment to other patients on our waiting list who may need to see a doctor more urgently. Our doctors have the discretion to charge a $25 cancellation fee if sufficient notice is not provided.  Your cooperation would be appreciated.

Prahran Market Clinic is a private billing clinic.

Fees are payable at the time of consultation by cash, Mastercard, Visa, American Express or EFTPOS. HiCAPS for private health insurance is available for some allied health consultations.  Please note that PIN only will be accepted for credit & debit card payments from 1st August 2014.  Signature will no longer be accepted.  If you do not currently have a PIN number attached to your payment card, please arrange for one through your bank.

The AMA fee structure forms the basis of our billing policy.

This is a summary of our standard fees, effective from 1st July 2019.

Saturday appointments are not bulk billed unless at the GP's discretion.

Patients wishing to have visits charged to a third party must provide evidence of claim acceptance or a contact person who can verify the claim.   i.e. TAC or Work Cover claim number, a letter from your employer, or contact details.

Patients who are referred to other providers such as x-ray or pathology are advised that additional fees may apply. Enquiries should be made with the relevant provider to establish what is covered under Medicare or private health insurance.

Allied Health Professional's Fees

The Allied health Professionals are independent contractors who lease rooms from Prahran Market clinic. Patients will need to discuss with their Allied Health Professional their individual fees.

Repeat Prescriptions, Referrals & Test Results

We request that you phone and make an appointment if you require repeat prescriptions or referrals. Our doctors have a duty of care to ensure that repeat medication or referral remains appropriate, and a short consultation is required to check on this. These appointments can generally be accommodated same-day if urgent, and will generally be bulk-billed if there are no issues arising from the consultation.

Patients are encouraged to book an appointment to collect results and to take an active role in their health management.

Test results will be advised during a follow up appointment with your doctor. Nursing staff may also advise results over the telephone at your doctor’s discretion. Confidential test results, such as HIV results, will only be advised in person by your doctor.

Home Visits & After Hours

Home visits are available for regular patients of the practice who are unable to attend because of their medical condition.

Hospital, Hostel and Nursing Home visits may also be arranged with doctors at this clinic.

Our after hours service is provided by the Home Doctor Service. Our telephone is redirected to this service whenever the clinic is closed.

This service is a separate entity to Prahran Market Clinic, and has its own billing policy.

Recall & Reminder System

We use a combination of mail and email to remind patients of important dates and follow ups e.g. vaccinations, pap smears, significant check ups & reviews.

Universal Access

Prahran Market Clinic is committed to providing quality health care to all patients. If you require an interpreter or have any special access needs, please inform reception when booking your appointment.
