More about us...
New Patients
To ensure we can provide care to our existing patients, we currently have limited capacity for new patients. Because our doctors operate independently within our rooms, please phone reception on 03 9514 0888 to learn more about who is and is not taking new patients currently. We will update this web page as this changes

Completing this form prior to attending the clinic will save you some time. Please remember to bring your Medicare Card, Student Card or any concession cards with you, so we can record and verify these details.

Appointments
Appointments are required, and can be made through reception by phone or in person. Online appointment bookings are available to existing patients only. Time can be made available for urgent appointments (e.g. PEP) by letting reception know you require urgent medical attention.
If you have a medical emergency, phone 000 or go straight to hospital emergency department.
The standard appointment time is 15 minutes, however you can ask for a longer appointment if you have multiple issues you wish to discuss. We recommend a longer appointment to discuss mental health.
Our receptionists will ask you to confirm your name, address, and date of birth each time you phone for an appointment. This is part of ensuring your privacy and verifying your identity. Please assist our reception staff by providing them with enough information about your requirements to ensure that the appropriate time is allocated for your appointment and your appointment is made with the correct doctor. This will assist us in keeping to time.
Not all doctors are able to prescribe S100 drugs – if you require scripts for methadone or similar, let the front desk know so we can book you in with someone who can help.
An SMS reminder message will automatically be sent to your mobile phone on the day before your appointment. You may opt out of this service by advising reception.
We request that you provide a minimum of 2 hours notice of cancellation if you cannot make your appointment. This allows us to reallocate your appointment to other patients on our waiting list who may need to see a doctor more urgently. Our doctors have the discretion to charge a $25 cancellation fee if sufficient notice is not provided. If you're running late, give us a call so we plan around it and make sure you still get the time you need.

Repeat Prescriptions, Referrals & Test Results
We request that you phone and make an appointment if you require repeat prescriptions or referrals. Our doctors have a duty of care to ensure that repeat medication or referral remains appropriate, and a short consultation is required to check on this. These appointments can generally be accommodated same-day if urgent, and will generally be bulk-billed if there are no issues arising from the consultation.
Patients are encouraged to book an appointment to collect results and to take an active role in their health management.
Test results will be advised during a follow up appointment with your doctor. Nursing staff may also advise results over the telephone at your doctor’s discretion. Confidential test results will only be advised in person by your doctor.

Home Visits & After Hours
Home visits may be available for regular patients of the practice who are unable to attend because of their medical condition. Please discuss this with your regular doctor as this is doctor dependent.
Hospital, Hostel and Nursing Home visits may also be arranged with some doctors at this clinic.
Our after hours service is provided by the Home Doctor Service. Our telephone is redirected to this service whenever the clinic is closed.
This service is a separate entity to Prahran Market Clinic, and has its own billing policy.

Recall & Reminder System
We use a combination of mail. SMS and email to remind patients of important dates and follow ups e.g. vaccinations, cervical screens, significant check ups & reviews. Please inform your doctor of your preference.

Universal Access
Prahran Market Clinic is committed to providing quality health care to all patients. If you require an interpreter or have any special access needs, please inform reception when booking your appointment.

Medical Students
Prahran Market Clinic hosts medical students from both Melbourne and Monash University.
We appreciate the willingness of patients to participate in the education of future doctors, but also respect that you may prefer to not have a student involved in your consultation: just let us know.
